Because you won't be the one paying for the transformer, or the rewiring, or the week of lost installation time.
I've learned to ask 'what's NOT included in this datasheet?' before asking 'what's the price?' It's saved me about $2,500 so far this year, just in avoided change orders.
The Real Cost of Skipping the Specs
That first mismatched shipment? We rejected it. The vendor redid the order at their cost because our contract specified the correct model number. But it delayed our project by three weeks. The building owner wasn't happy. Our installers had to scramble to other jobs. And I had to explain to my boss why we 'didn't catch it earlier.'
The assumption is that rush orders cost more because they're harder to fulfill. The reality is they cost more because they're unpredictable and disrupt planned workflows. Had we insisted on the correct datasheet at the quote stage, we would have caught the mismatch before the pallet left the factory.
Now I keep a binder of datasheets for every Growatt inverter model we approve. I update it quarterly. It takes about an hour. And it's the most boring, valuable hour of my week.
